There’s probably much more available information on driving traffic than there is on creating a site that will convert it. It goes beyond that, though, because your site needs to make your visitors, first, want to stay there. Your site’s appearance plays a major role in not only retaining the visitors but also making them come back. Three seconds flat – that’s about how long it takes for people to make a judgment about site. That’s right; you only have a few seconds to make that lasting impression. A clear, simple design with good navigation will fare better than a site lacking in those areas. So taking the time to do this right, the first time, will only help your online business efforts. Ok, we’ll share some more insights about design that will help you with your visitors.
There’s a lot to design, it’s not just about graphics because you need to be sensitive to your market like avoiding popups, as an example. Sometimes what you lose will outweigh any gains made. Popups have a bad name, so you’ll need to be mindful about creating a bad impression for yourself. People know popup blockers are common in browsers, so if your’s gets by then they’ll you have a special one – and they may not like it. Some people may actually associate you with spamming if they see them. You can always just use a subscription form on your site for gathering optins.
There are very many reasons to not use flash. You know, there are a lot of people who still use a slow connection, and flash just kills it for them – plus a lot of people with hi-speed just don’t like it. Flash will also not allow for search engine optimization, either. People online are ridiculously impatient, so you’re really risking it if you use it. Flash was popular a long time ago because it looked cool and it was novel. Impressive and looks good, sure but it still irritates many people. If you just want to impress, and not make money, then go for it. If your objective is to make money, develop a list, use SEO, then you will just have to say goodbye to flash… sorry.
The copy on your site is the most significant part, so it’s very important that visitors can read it. Don’t put red text on a black background. Instead stick to the regular black text on a white background approach, always works. The easier it is to read the copy on your site, the better it is. You could have all the traffic in the world, but if nobody gets around to reading your copy it won’t help.
You just have to put in the work, or pay someone who knows, to create a site that connects very positively with your market audience.
