It is said that artist Scott Campbell was commissioned by Louis Vuitton to design its Melrose Avenue Monogram Vernis for next week’s men show in Paris.
Best known as a celebrity tattoo artist, Campbell inks tattoos for everyone from Sting to Marc Jacobs. Cooperating with ecah other for a long time, result in the deeply rooted friendship between Jacobs and Cambpell. What will be the result of the two old friends’ intimate cooperation? Just wait to see the show of Louis Vuitton handbags.
In the fantastic Louis Vuitton spring / summer 2011 show, you can find that this cooperation is resulting in a series of bags to be released. The bags feature Campbell’s intricate artwork on several designs, including solid leather offerings and the label’s iconic damier print silhouette. It is absolutely appealing that the flower patterns on the bags are in such a cool and intricate feeling. There is no doubt that these stylish bags will be pricey and a big hit. But will they reach the same heights as the graffiti or Murakami ones remain to be verified. Some of these should be great for the frequent traveller.
For all of its classic elegance and calls for heritage, Louis Vuitton’s actually embraced a bit of edge this year. Jacobs and his stylist Katie Grand cast Victoria’s Secret models for the AW10 show, Todd Selby’s been working on a whole new website for the brand, called The Journey of a Man’s Wardrobe, and maybe most unexpected, they built a trophy case for the World Cup.
At the same time, Campbell’s first solo exhibition just closed in New York at the end of May, which means that he’s had plenty of time to work on man-bags for Louis Vuitton. In the Paris fashion show, the focus is LV handbags with tattoo. How will the first performance of Louis vuitton and Scott Campbell end? No one knows the answer, let’s just wait and see!
