You bet. I’ve done it. In fact when I started building websites I knew nothing, nada, ziltch.
I scoured the Web for tools, software, and services that would help me build websites. In the process I learned some coding, but before I became a coder, I’d built many websites.
The key is finding the right tools and platforms.
One platform that is outstanding for building websites of all types is WordPress. With the advancement of themes and the WP platform itself, it’s becoming a drag n’ drop website building technology that anyone can use.
But WordPress isn’t only for beginners. Advanced coders can roll up their sleeves and do wonderful and amazing designs and functionality with this web-changing software called WordPress.
Is WordPress the only game in town?
No. Some people don’t like WordPress. It’s a hosting resources hog. It’s CMS with loops that some people find annoying. I can appreciate these complaints.
For true newbies to the website building business there’s online website builders where you can build sites for free and host them on the services server. You can also pay a monthly fee for getting a custom domain and building your site using their drag n’ drop website builders.
I prefer WordPress over online website builders, but I wouldn’t go so far as to say WordPress is much better. It’s a preference.
Then there’s downloadable software which builds sites … usually HTML websites. This too can be good and sometimes offers more flexibility and features than the online website builders.
If you’re new to building websites, there’s no need to study coding for months before launching your first site.
Instead, launch a site with non-coding required platforms, then learn some code if you want to do some fancy customization. This was the approach I took and am glad I did so. I learned much more with live sites than reading some book without any practical implementation.
If you need a website and don’t want to pay hundreds or thousands of dollars for it, then you’re luck because these days the options are many … you can find a platform that works for you.
